Who we are

Kitchener Waterloo Cycling Academy (KWCA) is a not-for-profit organization registered in Ontario and is affiliated with Ontario Cycling & Cycling Canada. The KWCA organization is run by volunteers who love to cycle and are passionate about developing cycling skills in athletes.  Our coaching staff and many ride leaders who have been developing youth for over 25 years.

KW Cycling Academy (KWCA) offers many programs for all levels of riders.  Introduction to Cycling, Recreational, non-competitive sport, plus competitive Racing & High-Performance programs (MTB, Road, and Track). Our programs focus on cyclists under age 25 but are available for both youth and adults. KWCA proudly supports cyclists from Waterloo Region with Competitive Training groups throughout Ontario.

KWCA is a full-service club that promotes participation to help gain fitness, strength, speed and the skills required for safe cycling. Our cycling programs are for young recreational cyclists to high performance athletes who attend Provincial, National & World Championship events.  The KWCA high performance program is designed to put athletes on the podium.  KWCA Competitive athletes - receive daily training prescriptions (Training Peaks platform). 

Whether your family rides the the road, or the trails, and whether your interest is recreational or competitive, we have a program for you and your children. We look forward to supporting our members as they progress through our cycling programs.

KWCA offers MTB Cycling programs for all level of riders through our MTB school. The KWCA MTB cycling School uses a skills-based and fitness approach for placement in our MTB school levels. Riders who participate in our MTB trail rides attend a MTB handling and fitness assessment for placement in our MTB programs. Riders are reassessed through the season. We continual strive to increase our MTB riders’ skills and fitness!  Placement in our MTB ride groups and training is dependent on your skill level.

  • Tuesday Introduction to MTB rides at Breithaupt Park for our novice MTB riders - Learn the basics... advance to Trail ready groups!

  • Monday and Thursday Trail rides at various local MTB trails for our trail ready riders

  • High Performance Training - Various trails.

  • Tuesday race training and participation in local race series at Kelso

  • Skill Sessions

  • Directed Race Training Projects (invitation based on skill/age eligibility)

  • Race support at local, regional, Ontario Cups and National races.
